U3A Cockburn presents Dr David Thorne – Do’s and Don’ts of Prescribed Drugs

The University of the 3rd Age (U3A) is a not-for-profit club for senior people to stay socially, physically and mentally active.

Come along and find out about simple pharmacology – a basic understanding of how drugs are absorbed, get to where they’re needed, do their intended job and are ultimately eliminated. Of course, all drugs have unintended consequences too, and the concepts of side effects and interactions with food / drugs / supplements (with some typical examples) will be discussed. The take home messages will include a few of the over-the-counter and commonly-prescribed drugs that might just pose a risk you did not realise, and how best to minimise the likelihood of falling foul of them!
